A former commercial vehicle enforcement officer has pled guilty in federal court to charges relating to accepting tens of thousands of dollars worth of bribes from a Dallas trucking company in exchange for Level I inspection decals.
Trooper Allegedly Took $20,000 In Exchange For Favorable CMV Inspections
Fifty year old Kevin Cauley, once a sergeant for the Texas Department of Public Safety, pled guilty earlier this month to honest services wire fraud, according to a report in the Dallas News.
Court documents claim that Cauley accepted $20,000 in bribes in exchange for Level I inspection decals for more than 36 trucks from July 2014 through September 2015.
According to court records, Cauley performed two person Level I inspections on trucks by himself and then falsely reported that another trooper had taken part in the inspections. Cauley is also accused of claiming to perform roadside inspections when the inspections actually took place at the Dallas trucking company.
One other Texas trooper is accused of taking part in the scheme, but it isn’t clear if he has been formally charged.
The trucking company owner does not appear to have been charged for his role in the scheme.
