Argument over parking leads to trucker stabbing at Hesperia truck stop

A 29-year-old Fresno man, Joseph Eric Leroy, was arrested after he allegedly stabbed another man at a truck stop in Hesperia, California, on Monday night.

Leroy was arrested after San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials connected him to the stabbing that occurred at a Pilot Truck Stop just before 7 p.m.

Leroy approached the victim, a 34-year-old man, in the truck stop’s parking lot, according to the Daily Press. The 2 men began arguing over parking and the situation escalated quickly.

Hesperia Sheriff’s station spokeswoman Jackie Chambers said, “An argument occurred, reportedly over how a vehicle was parked. The suspect produced a weapon and attacked the victim.”

San Bernardino County Fire Department spokesman Eric Sherwin said that upon arriving at the scene of the crime, paramedics found the man bleeding on the ground. He was rushed to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. No other injuries besides the stabbing were reported.

Leroy was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury at the truck stop at 7:38 p.m. It is not clear at this time how exactly he was linked to the crime.

Leroy is currently being held at the Adelanto Detention Center with a bail set at $50,000.
