60,000 Truckers Will Be Required To Complete Human Trafficking Training

Published:

A newly signed law in Arkansas will require tens of thousands of truck drivers licensed in the state to complete training designed to help them spot human trafficking.

On Tuesday Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson signed Act 922 into law, making it mandatory for anyone with a Class A CDL  in the state to complete a course on recognizing the signs of human trafficking. Per the new law, any truck driver who wants to obtain or renew their CDL in the state of Arkansas must attend and complete a training session hosted by the Arkansas State Police or a third party group that is endorsed by ASP. Alternately, a truck driver can opt to take an online course sponsored by the group Truckers Against Trafficking.

Drivers who want to complete the course will be required to watch a 26 minute video and to pass a 15 question quiz. The training session will also tell truck drivers who to call if they see suspected human trafficking activity.

After a driver successfully completes the course, the Arkansas State Police will receive documentation.

The course will be free of charge.

Rep. Charlotte Douglas, who sponsored the bill, says that “I’ve not heard from a trucker yet that doesn’t want to participate and help.”
