CVSA Announces Date For One Day Brake Inspection Campaign

Published:

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has announced the date for its one day brake safety inspection blitz.

Brake Safety Day 2017 Date Announced

This year, Brake Safety Day will take place on Thursday, September 7 throughout North America.

Most inspectors will be performing the North American Standard Level I inspection, which includes “examination of both driver operating requirements and vehicle mechanical fitness. Inspections conducted will include inspection of brake-system components to identify loose or missing parts, air or hydraulic fluid leaks, worn linings, pads, drums or rotors, and other faulty brake-system components. ABS malfunction indicator lamps are also checked. Inspectors will measure pushrod stroke, where applicable. Vehicles with defective or out-of-adjustment brakes will be placed out of service.”

The Brake Safety Day activities will also include the use of performance-based brake testing (PBBT) in 10 selected jurisdictions.

Brake Safety Day will also include educational outreach to drivers and mechanics on the importance of properly maintaining brake systems.

Two Brake Safety Day Campaigns Replace Brake Safety Week

This year, the CVSA shook up their usual format of holding Brake Safety Week. Instead of the usual seven day inspection campaign, the CVSA held an unannounced Brake Safety Day on May 3, 2017, which will be followed up by September’s Brake Safety Day.
