A Pennsylvania trucking company owner is facing hundreds of felony charges for failing to carry workers’ compensation insurance for a two year period.
Trucking Company Owner Did Not Have Workers’ Compensation Coverage Insurance For Two Years: Court Documents
Charges were filed against 54 year old Michael W. Robinson and his company Robinson Trucking on Tuesday. He faces 816 felony charges for failing to procure workers’ compensation coverage.
Investigators began building a case against Robinson following a 2013 incident during which an employee was injured. After a Workers’ Compensation judge ruled that the man was injured while working for Robinson Trucking, an investigation reportedly uncovered that Robinson did not have Workers’ Compensation insurance coverage from June 2012 until June 2014.
In Pennsylvania, every day that an employer fails to provide Workers’ Compensation insurance coverage can be charged as a separate offense. Felony charges are usually reserved for what the courts deem to be an intentional failure to provide proper Workers’ Compensation coverage. Each of the charges carries a possible penalty of thousands of dollars and even jail time.
Robinson was found to be in violation of the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Act of 1915, leading to the numerous felony charges.
