Montana Locals Angered Over Proposed Truck Stop

Residents of the small town of Ramsay, Montana, expressed their extreme opposition to a proposed Love’s Travel Stop at a public meeting last night.

Love’s has plans to build a new truck stop off of I-90 with two food franchises and 137 semi truck parking spots. The proposed truck stop would be across the street from some homes and a few blocks from the town’s school.

The proposed truck stop has become a source of consternation in the town, with many residents worried about pollution, noise, and safety. Others worried that the truck stop will cause Ramsay to lose its small town atmosphere.

Last night Love’s hosted a public meeting at the Ramsay School to address the resident’s concerns over the new location.

Many residents showed up at the meeting holding signs with messages like “My Safety Is More Important Than Your Truck Stop” and “No Truck Stop, No Crime.

During the meeting, a Love’s representative discussed the architectural elements that would be incorporated into the facility to reduce noise and light pollution, including a detention pond and 3 foot tall berms. He also made note of the fact that the truck stop would generate about 60 new jobs and that Love’s regularly donates to non-profit organizations in its home towns.

According to the Montana Standard, residents at the meeting “didn’t seem swayed” by the presentation.
