A motorist lost his life today when he crashed into a turning flatbed truck, causing a telephone pole to pierce his windshield.

The crash happened in Midland, Texas, around 9:30 this morning. According to police, a flatbed truck hauling telephone poles was traveling west on Garden City Highway. The truck driver pulled into the outside lane to make a right turn. As he did so, a pickup truck in the inside lane collided with the turning flatbed trailer. The collision sent a telephone pole crashing through the pickup’s windshield.
The pickup truck driver, 21 year old Zachary Galindo, died as a result of the crash. No other injuries have been reported.
Commercial vehicle enforcement officers were on scene to determine whether the telephone pole was properly secured.
