A motorist survived after a collision sent metal pipes from a flatbed truck crashing through his windshield on I-17 in Phoenix this morning.

The incident happened around 7 a.m. on southbound I-17 near Bethany Home Road.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety has not released information on what caused the crash.
The man in the SUV was reportedly able to exit the vehicle under his own power. He has been taken to the hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life threatening.
The crash caused miles-long traffic backups.
