The Nebraska State Patrol continued their surprise truck inspection campaign yesterday in Sidney, this time placing over half of the trucks inspected out of service.
Nebraska Troopers Surprise Truckers For At Least Fifth Time In 2017
Members of the NSP’s Metropolitan Aggressive and Prevention Selective (MAPS) Team conducted surprise inspections on 24 trucks in Sidney. Thirteen of those trucks were placed out of service for various defects including brake issues. Additionally, three truck drivers were placed out of service for “no log book” violations and “no valid commercial driver’s license” violations.
Troopers say that they discovered 147 violations on the 24 trucks they inspected. NSP says that they issued $2,795 worth of fines.
NSP says that their surprise inspection efforts “target commercial vehicles that might not travel outside the city or pass through weigh stations as part of their regular routes.”
NSP’s MAPS team has conducted at least five surprise truck inspections so far this year throughout the state. More surprise truck inspections are planned for the remainder of the summer into the fall.
