New UrgentCareTravel aims to benefit truck drivers on the road

Published:

At certain Pilot and Flying J locations, truck drivers can benefit from low-cost medical services provided by UrgentCareTravel.

UrgentCareTravel will provide truck drivers with a variety of services ranging from basic clinical practices to medical care for truck drivers’ family members.

Health Care For Drivers Now Available At Truck Stops

Mitch Strobin, UrgentCareTravel’s vice president of service management, states that there are currently 6 locations with 8 more locations set to open by 2018. Altogether, 40 locations are planned to open nationwide in the coming years. Strobin claims that all the locations to come will be located at either Pilot or Flying J truck stops.

The clinics will have walk-in services as well as a monthly inclusive package for $80 that would include services like DOT medical certification, drug screening, access to 24/7 telemedicine and personalized care plans for drivers suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.

There is a family package available for $120 a month that covers services for up to 5 family members. There are no deductibles or co-pays required – simply, the monthly fee.

This conveniently located medical service aims to ease the lives of truck drivers while ensuring access to affordable healthcare. Truck drivers will not have to take time off the road to travel to a medical center, they can seek medical care in places they are already stopping.

Their website states, “Research suggests drivers will spend a minimum of 2 hours seeking a required drug screen or an updated DOT certification at local clinics. The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) reports that if drivers were able to receive these services where they live and work, on the road, the time spent by drivers seeking these services would be reduced by a minimum of 1.5 hours, saving the industry over $700M annually in lost productivity.

Additionally, with a turnover rate in excess of 100% primarily due to poor driver health, one of the major challenges for trucking companies is driver retention. The average cost to replace a driver is $5K; reducing the turnover rate by even 10% can result in substantial savings for trucking companies.”

Strobin says, “We’re truly serious about getting drivers healthy, for their sake, for their family’s sake, and for their company’s sake.”

Strobin also hopes that this monthly subscription will appeal to drivers that are entering the trucking industry, as well as lower the number of workman’s comp claims overall. Injuries that would require medical attention beyond basic first aid should also seek care outside of the UrgentCareTravel services.

The clinics are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Educational materials, a schedule of clinic visits and monthly phone calls from the nurse practitioners are available for drivers with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity.

These medical clinics also release a newsletter twice per month that focuses on providing health and wellness information and tips.

Like other medical care providers, the clinic uses standard health record systems to allow for the easier transmission of clinical records and documents.
