A tanker carrying liquid asphalt overturned on a New Jersey Turnpike Sunday afternoon and suddenly burst into flame near milepost 56.9.

The truck driver was not hurt, as he/she escaped the truck before any serious harm could be done. There were no other accident related injuries reported.
Robbinsville, Bordentown firefighters, and several other departments rushed to the scene. It took about an hour to get the flames under control.

The turnpike was a mess following the accident. A large portion of the median was destroyed, and the asphalt from within the tanker spilled onto the road.
Within a few hours, traffic was reopened while cleanup continued.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
