A tractor-trailer that was transporting 150 pigs overturned Wednesday morning while approaching a highway interchange. In downtown Louisville, Kentucky the tractor-trailer was traveling northbound on Interstate 65 to eastbound Interstate 64 on its way to deliver the onboard pigs to a Swift plant.
After the truck flipped on its right side, the truck caught on fire. This gave some of the pigs within the perfect opportunity to escape. Unfortunately there were many pigs that did not survive the crash; however, some began to wander around the highway nearby. The pigs trapped inside the truck understandably began to panic.
Looks like traffic on 65 N and S can only access I-71 N, not I-64 E. Pigs still on interstate with overturned semi. pic.twitter.com/O71630f7DJ

This interchange is known as a “Spaghetti Junction”, and is believed to have contributed to the accident.
According to Lexington Herald Leader, the driver was moved to University of Louisville Hospital with minor injuries. It is unclear when the remaining pigs reached their destination. WLKY News states, “Officials have not said when the ramp will reopen. Delays are expected in the area.”
