Repeat Trailer Thief Sentenced To Seven Years In Prison

Published:

A man with a long history of stealing semi trailers was sentenced to seven years behind bars in a Georgia court on Tuesday.

Morris Michael McCoy, 38, represented himself in a Cobb County court against charges of theft by taking.

According to prosecutors, McCoy arrived at National Nail Corp. in Austell, Georgia in a bobtail truck in January 2013. After stealing a trailer full of $40,000 worth of nails, he was caught on video at Atlanta’s Rand Recycling scrapping the entire load for $450.

McCoy has at least 4 prior felony convictions for stealing using a vehicle.

Cobb County Superior Court Judge Robert Leonard sentenced McCoy to 7 years in prison and then 13 years probation.

McCobb has been in custody since 2015 and will receive credit for the time already spent behind bars.
