A truck driver was severely injured in Tampa this morning after he swerved to avoid a vehicle that cut him off, sending his truck crashing off of an overpass onto the road below.
The crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-75 around 6:45 a.m. Forty-nine year old Samuel Colon was hauling recycled materials along the interstate when a vehicle suddenly changed lanes in front of him. Police say that Colon swerved to avoid colliding with the vehicle and crashed into and then through the concrete barrier. His truck plunged down onto Fowler Avenue below.
Colon was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
Two motorists hit some debris from the crash on Fowler Avenue, damaging their vehicles.
Florida State Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the vehicle that cut off Colon’s truck, though they have not released a description of that vehicle at this time.
