Tennessee Troopers Seek Motorist Who Cut Off Tanker Truck, Causing Crash And Gas Spill

Published:

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is on the lookout for a pickup truck driver who they say cut off a tanker truck late Saturday night, causing the truck to crash and spill thousands of gallons of gasoline into a nearby creek.

Motorist Ran Off On Foot After Crash

The crash happened on northbound I-65 at mile marker 108 near White House. Police say that a pickup cut off and crashed into the tanker, causing it to overturn. The pickup truck driver fled on foot following the crash.

The truck driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries but was later released.

Northbound I-65 was closed for hours while crews worked to clean up the crash site.

Crash Causes Thousands Of Gallons Of Gas To Leak Into Creek

During the crash, approximately 7,400 gallons of gasoline leaked from the tanker. Hazmat crews were on the scene to clean up the gas spill, but a large amount of the gas made its way to the Moss Brench creek.

The Robertson County Emergency Management Agency has warned residents about the potential danger of fumes from the spilled gas. They’ve also asked farmers to restrict livestock access to the creek.
