Texas Troopers Seize $11 Million Worth Of Marijuana From Semi

A truck driver is facing felony charges after police discovered nearly a ton of marijuana in his rig during a traffic stop.

According to the Texas Deparment of Public Safety, the drug bust was made on Saturday around noon in Hidalgo County.

A DPS trooper stopped 36 year old truck driver Juan Carlos Sandoval-Martinez for a traffic violation on U.S. 281 and Farm-to-Market Road 2812.

During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered 80 bundles of marijuana hidden inside boxes in the truck’s trailer.

The seized marijuana weighed 1,954 pounds. Police say that the street value of the marijuana is over $11 million.

Sandoval-Martinez was arrested and charged with second-degree felony marijuana possession. He is being held on a $150,000 bond.

Sandoval-Martinez could face up to 20 years in prison.
