According to Business Insider, transit style maps are sort of a “rite of passage” for any upstart information designer.

Although the maps may lack attention to fine details, they are designed for sheer ease of use, organization, and ability to reduce complex geography. Subway maps are used to clearly display often complex routes in a way that is easy to understand.
