Two thousand gallons of human waste spilled into a creek in Indianapolis after a bridge collapsed underneath a septic tank truck today.
Bridge Collapse Leads To Sewage Spill
The incident happened on the city’s north side around noon.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, the truck was carrying around 3000 gallons of human waste when if fell through a bridge spanning Holly Creek. The bridge collapse caused a valve on the tanker to break, spilling out the smelly load.
No injuries have been reported.
Crews were able to vacuum up much of the spilled waste. The rest will be allowed to flow into the White River, where it will be diluted. Officials say that there is no immediate health risk.
It isn’t immediately clear why the bridge collapsed under the truck. The incident is still under investigation.
No citations have been issued at this time.
