Three people were killed and two others critically injured when a passenger vehicle crashed head on with another passenger vehicle while attempting to pass a semi on an central Florida road yesterday.

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on S.R. 710 in Martin County. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 47 year old Odilon Velasquez Morales was driving south on S.R. 710 with two passengers in his vehicle. At the same time, 24 year old Ronny Morales-Perez and a female passenger were traveling north on S.R. 710.
FHP says that Morales-Perez attempted to pass a tractor trailer in front. He reportedly moved into the southbound lane to pass the truck and crashed head on with Morales’s car.
Morales and his two 34 year old passengers, Abel Perez Hernandez and Carlos Lopez Maldanado, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Morales-Perez and his passenger, 27 year old Armando Gomez Garcia, were transported to the hospital. Both are listed in serious condition.

The truck driver was not injured in the crash.
S.R. 710 was shut down for the crash clean up and investigaton.
FHP continues to investigate the crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
