Tire smashes through truck driver’s windshield

Published:

A truck driver was traveling on Interstate 69 in Indiana when a spare tire from a different trailer became dislodged and smashed through his windshield.

Indiana State Police reported the accident occurred around 2:40 p.m. on Saturday while a 2000 Mack semi-tractor traveled northbound I-69 near the 292-mile marker.

The truck driver, John A. Green, 58, suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident.

The spare tire flew from the southbound lanes across the highway median and into Green’s windshield.

The tire shattered the windshield, hit Green, and then bounced to the passenger’s seat.

State police said the tire is one commonly used by enclosed trailers.

The driver of the vehicle that lost the tire is not known at this time.

Any witnesses who this accident are urged call Indiana State Police at either (260) 432-8661 or (800) 552-0976.
