Texas Cop Survives After Semi Strikes His Parked Cruiser

Published:

A police officer from Decatur is lucky to be alive after his parked cruiser was rear-ended by a tractor trailer last night.

Officer Matthew Roberts was parked on the shoulder of southbound U.S. 81 around 11:20 p.m. when a southbound semi left its lane and struck his Chevy Tahoe from behind. The crash caused the Tahoe to roll and it came to rest upside down.

Following the crash, the semi came to a stop a quarter of a mile down the road near a hotel parking lot.

Roberts was airlifted to the hospital for treatment but was released around 4 a.m.

The truck driver, 39-year-old Christopher Toussaint, was arrested and charged with DUI. He was not seriously injured in the crash.

It is unclear whether the police cruiser had its lights activated at the time of the crash. The incident is still under investigation.
