Drivers traveling in the Gulf Coast area this week should be prepared for dangerous weather as Tropical Storm Cindy approaches, prompting many states to issue serious warnings.

Tropical Storm To Bring Heavy Rain, Flooding, Possible Tornados

The National Weather Service announced this afternoon that the storm building in the Gulf of Mexico had developed a well defined center and is expected to reach land by late Wednesday or early Thursday.

Tropical Storm Cindy is expected to hit Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and the Florida panhandle. Parts of Texas are also under storm advisory, and North Carolina could be impacted by the storm as well.

The storm is expected to dump as much as 12 inches of rain on some areas, which could cause dangerous flooding. The storm may also bring tornados to some of the affected states.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has already declared a state of emergency in preparation for Tropical Storm Cindy.

New Orleans city officials have warned residents to prepare for power outages or even evacuations. Mayor Mitch Landrieu warns, “this is going to be a very serious event.”
