Head Of Daimler Trucks Resigns Unexpectedly

Published:

Last week the head of Daimler Trucks stepped down unexpectedly, citing personal issues as the reason for his departure.

Wolfgang Bernhard resigned a year before his contract was due to run out, according to reports.

Daimler issued a statement that Bernhard “has been released from his duties with immediate effect.” It is unclear what Bernhard plans to do next, but analyst Daniel Schwarz remarked that “If he is leaving Daimler he must have opportunities elsewhere to become chief executive somewhere else and at Fiat Chrysler a job is freeing up soon.

Bernhard began working for Daimler in 1994. In his time with the company, he championed truck connectivity and the practicality of diesel fuel. He also argued against overregulation by the EPA: “If the EPA goes beyond the point where the customer is willing to pay for it, we are making a mistake. The customer’s payback for buying new technology needs to be around 18 months. We should push EPA to use this rule of thumb and make sure we aren’t doing stupid things.
