Study: Millennials Are The Nation’s Most Dangerous Drivers

Published:

A new study from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that millennials are the most dangerous drivers on the road — even more dangerous than teens.

The AAA study found that 88% of drivers aged 19 to 24 years old admitted to engaging in risky behavior such as texting while behind the wheel. Only 69% of drivers aged 16 to 18 years of age admitted to engaging in the same risky driving behaviors.

The study also found that millennial drivers are more likely than any other age group to:

  • Text while driving
  • Be high on marijuana
  • Run red lights
  • Exceed the speed limit by 10 – 15 m.p.h.

“Alarmingly, some of the drivers ages 19 to 24 believe that their dangerous driving behavior is acceptable,” said David Yang of the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

These findings are worrisome in light of the fact that traffic deaths jumped 7% from 2014 to 2015 — the largest year to year jump in 50 years.
