A Canadian truck driver who went missing was found trapped in a crashed semi that had fallen down a 100 foot embankment.
The driver went missing on February 28 while he was hauling wood chips through a tight corner on Highway 3 near Hope, British Columbia. Police say that he lost control on the curve and his truck tumbled down a 100 foot embankment.
Trucker Trapped Upside Down For Two Days
When rescue crews finally located his truck Thursday night, the truck driver was reportedly pinned upside down with the steering wheel wedged against his abdomen.
The extraction process was difficult — tow trucks were brought in to make sure that the truck didn’t slide further down the embankment. It took a crew of approximately 25 people nine hours to cut away enough of the truck to extract the trapped driver, who was awake for the entire process.
The truck driver has been transported to the hospital and is said to be in good spirits. The extent of his injuries is unknown.
James Halliday of the RCPM called the incident “testament to his will to survive.”
