Motorist Killed After Rear Ending Truck In “No Parking Zone” At Rest Area

Published:

A motorist was killed early this morning when he crashed his car into the rear of a semi that Connecticut State Police say was parked illegally at a rest area.

The crash happened around 1 a.m. at the southbound I-95 rest area in Fairfield.

Twenty-three year old Lucky B. Keophannga crashed his Mini-Cooper into the right rear portion of a truck’s trailer after leaving the interstate and entering the rest area. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver, 47 year old Gabriel Thompson, was not seriously injured in the crash.

According to Trooper Stephen Corona, the semi was parked in a “clearly marked ‘fire lane; no parking zone’ off the left side of the highway at the entrance to the rest area.

No citations have been issued at this time.

State police are still investigating the crash.
