Police Arrest Suspect Following Highway 97 Semi Truck Shooting Spree

A suspect is now in police custody following a string of highway shootings targeting semi trucks over the weekend.

On Friday night, Canadian authorities received numerous calls from truck drivers who say that they took gunfire from a motorist on southbound Highway 97 near Prince George, B.C. Between the hours of 8:30 p.m. on Friday and 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, several truckers reported that they were shot at and that the shooter appeared to be aiming for their truck’s radiators or windows. Reports of semis being shot at came in from Houston, Burns Lake, Vanderhoof, Clucuz Lake, Prince George, Quesnel, and 100 Mile House.

The suspect vehicle was described as a blue 2009 Dodge Caliber with Ontario license plates.

No injuries were reported as a result of the shootings.

Late Saturday, police received a tip and were able to locate and arrest a suspect in Chilliwack. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots in the area where the arrest was made.

There is no known motive for the semi truck shootings at this time.

Though the suspect is in custody, police are still warning truck drivers who travelled south on Highway 7 on Friday night or early Saturday morning to inspect their trucks for bullet holes.
