Raised Dump Trailer Destroys TxDOT Sign On I-10

Published:

The driver whose raised dump trailer struck a TxDOT sign in San Antonio yesterday said that she likely hit the lever to raise the trailer accidentally while shifting gears.

The incident happened at 8:30 a.m. on eastbound I-10 near the downtown area. A truck hauling 23 tons of dirt was traveling along I-10 when the raised bed hit a lit TransGuide sign.

I-10 was shut down for around 6 hours while debris from the crash was removed.

No injuries were reported.

Driver Jessica Gil says that she thinks she hit the lever on the dash accidentally: “I’m thinking when I was shifting and looking, trying to merge in, I probably hit it. That’s the only way it will engage, with the clutch and that lever.

Gil said that she noticed that the trailer was raised just before the crash, but says that she didn’t slam on her brakes because she didn’t want the car following her to rear end her truck.

The incident is still under investigation.
