Trucker And 3 Others Die In Chain Reaction Crash On I-70 In Indiana

A Michigan truck driver was one of four people killed during a fiery crash involving a semi truck, a flatbed truck hauling steel bars, and a passenger vehicle on I-70 in Indiana over the weekend.

The crash happened on Saturday night in the eastbound lanes of I-70 near Terra Haute. According to Indiana State Police, traffic had slowed in the eastbound lanes for a vehicle on fire. ISP says that 38-year-old Michigan-based semi truck driver Jeffrey Kolkman failed to stop for slowed traffic and rear ended a car. Kolkman’s semi then rear ended a flatbed truck hauling steel bars.

The car caught fire and the steel bars from the flatbed penetrated the semi truck, killing Kolkman instantly.

The three people in the car died on impact as well.

The flatbed truck driver was not hurt. No other injuries were reported.

Eastbound I-70 was shut down for hours, causing long traffic backups.

ISP is still investigating the crash and encourages anyone who witnessed it to call them at 765-653-4114.
