Trucker Charged After Crashing Down Embankment

Published:

North Carolina police have filed charges against a truck driver after he crashed his rig off of a mountainside yesterday.

The crash happened around 9 a.m. in Asheville.

Driver Ricky Clayton, 40, had reportedly just picked up his girlfriend from the bus station and found himself in unfamiliar territory. Police say Clayton drove up Beaucatcher Road, where he went left of center and his truck overturned and crashed off of the embankment.

Clayton and his girlfriend were taken to the hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries.

Clayton’s truck was loaded with 77,000 pounds of meat at the time of the crash.

Clayton was charged with driving “left of center.” More charges could follow; the NCDMV Motor Carrier Unit will be inspecting the truck to look for further violations.

Tunnel Road reopened early this morning.
