Trucker Crashed Trying To Avoid Wrong Way DUI Motorist

Published:

A truck driver was crashed his rig early this morning while trying to avoid a collision with a wrong-way motorist under the influence of alcohol driving down the center of the interstate.

The incident happened just after 2 a.m. in Champaign County, Illinois.

Thirty-seven year old truck driver Danny Blancett was traveling east on I-72 near mile marker 175 when he encountered a Honda Accord driving the wrong way and straddling the center line of the interstate.

Blancett tried to avoid hitting the Honda, but he was unable to do so. After the collision, the semi ““careened through the median, across the westbound lanes and came to a rest in an adjacent field,” according to Illinois State Police.

Remarkably, Blancett was not injured in the crash.

The Honda driver, 25 year old Justin Norman, was treated for minor injuries.

Norman faces numerous serious charges for the incident, including “aggravated DUI, DUI with no insurance, DUI alcohol, driving the wrong way on a controlled access Highway, and driving with no insurance.”
