Truck cab leaves behind its trailer as it dangles off overpass

Published:

A truck hauling Miracle Whip and macaroni and cheese crashed through an overpass side railing right before that cab detached from the trailer and plunged into the highway below.

The accident was reported around 9:40 p.m. on Sunday night. The truck was traveling in the westbound Loop 820 TEXpress lanes near Iron Horse Boulevard: the cab of the truck fell onto North Loop 820.

According to the police, the truck driver attempted to take the Iron Horse drive exit when he lost control of his speed and subsequently the truck.

The driver then hit the overpass wall causing the cab to detach from the trailer and fall into the roadway below.

The trailer was stuck dangling from the overpass for hours before recovery crews were able to pry it out.

A fire department heavy-duty rescue team was needed in order to extract the driver from the cab. The driver was taken by helicopter to a local hospital.

The driver is in critical condition; the exact details of his injuries are not known at this time.

This crash is still under investigation – other than speed, authorities do not know any other contributing factors to this accident.
