Truck Driver Jailed Following Double Fatality 9 Vehicle Pileup

 

 

 

 

 

 

A truck driver has been arrested following a 9 vehicle pileup crash that left two people dead and a third in critical condition.

The crash happened in Green Oak Township, Michigan, yesterday afternoon. According to police, a 62 year old semi truck driver was traveling south on U.S. 23 around 1 p.m. when he failed to stop for traffic that had slowed in a construction zone. The truck struck numerous other vehicles before coming to a rest on top of a Ford Escort. Two vehicle occupants were trapped and had to be extracted by rescue crews.

The 51 year old man driving the Escort was pronounced dead at the scene. Another 52 year old man also died in the crash. A 25 year old woman who was a passenger in the Escort was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

The truck driver was not seriously injured.

According to police, the truck driver was arrested on charges of “committing a moving violation causing death of another person.

The crash remains under investigation by the Green Oak Township Police Department and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

Southbound U.S. 23 was shut down for seven hours for extraction, cleanup, and investigation. The lanes reopened around 8 p.m.
