Forty year old truck driver Cortney Williams is facing charges of fixed object collision, leaving the scene of an accident, and flight to avoid arrest. He is being held by the Douglas County Department of Corrections on a $8500 bond.
Omaha police were called at 5 a.m. this morning after a witness saw a semi hauling a Faraway Foods trailer crash into the garage of an apartment building near the intersection of 103rd and Pacific streets.
The truck driver left the scene after the crash.
Omaha police spotted the truck, which was now hauling a badly damaged trailer, not far from the crash site. However, Williams refused to pull over for police.
A formal police pursuit ensued for a few blocks. Williams finally pulled his rig into the parking lot for an elementary school and was arrested without incident.
The incident is still under investigation, but police say that the damage to the truck is consistent with the damage to the garage.
No injuries were reported as a result of the crash into the building or the police pursuit.
Williams was hauling produce when he crashed into the garage. Some of the produce spilled out after the trailer was ripped open.
At least one car was damaged during the incident.
The cost of the property damage that was incurred is still being assessed.
