A truck driver was killed yesterday in a chain reaction crash on I-57 near Ina, Illinois.
The crash happened around 9 a.m. yesterday in the southbound lanes of I-57 near mile marker 82. According to the Illinois State Police, traffic had slowed for a crash three miles ahead. ISP says that a white 2015 Freightliner and an orange 2018 Western Star both reduced speed for the slowed traffic. However, a red 2015 Volvo did not slow and and crashed into the Freightliner, pushing that truck into the Western Star truck.
The Volvo driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The other truck drivers were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
All southbound lanes of I-57 were shut down for about seven hours.
ISP is still investigating the incident. It isn’t clear why the Volvo driver failed to slow for traffic.
