The shooting happened around 8 a.m.
According to reports, 49-year-old Keith Odom of Jonesborough was making a repair on his truck while waiting to unload in a parking lot of a shopping center in the 12300 block of Florida Boulevard. He was scheduled to make a delivery to Barton’s Surplus Warehouse.
Truck Driver Shot During Robbery
While Odom was making the repairs to his truck, he was reportedly approached by a black male, who robbed him.
Authorities believe that Odom was shot after giving the suspect his property.
Odom was transported to the hospital, where he later passed away.
No Arrests Have Been Made
There are so far no suspects in the case.
A witness told local news station WBRZ that the suspect was “looking for bloodshed in the parking lot.”
Odom’s father said that his son loved being a truck driver. He told the Advocate, “He was wanting to be a truck driver from the time he was a little boy, 7 or 8 years old. All he ever wanted to do was drive. As soon as he was old enough, he got his license and he went on the road driving.”
Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
