The crash happened on U.S. 271 around 10:30 p.m. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a school bus carrying members of the Mount Pleasant High School boys track team was traveling south on the highway on the way home from a track meet. The track team’s assistant coach, 30 year old Angelica Beard, was following the bus in a car.
An 18 wheeler in the northbound lanes reportedly crossed over into the southbound lanes. The bus driver swerved to avoid the crash, but the semi still struck the driver’s side of the bus and the car behind it. The crash caused the bus to roll over.
