Single Vehicle DUI Crash Triggers Multi-Truck Crash

The crashes began around 2 a.m. between Grosse Tete and LA 415 when a suspected drunk driver in a passenger vehicle rolled his or her vehicle, blocking the lanes of eastbound I-10.

As traffic was backed up from this crash, three semi trucks were all stopped in a line along I-10 in the slowed traffic when a fourth semi rear ended the third truck in the line, pushing it into the first two trucks.

Two people inside the fourth semi that initiated the rear-end crash were killed. Two others were injured and taken to the hospital. The identities of those killed and injured in the crash have not yet been released.

One of the trucks was reportedly hauling sulphur dioxide.

The crash shut down eastbound I-10 for more than 10 hours. All lanes have now reopened.

The incident remains under investigation by the Louisiana State Police.
