TxDOT To Close San Antonio’s I-35 For Four Days

Starting on Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation will be shutting down a portion of I-35 in San Antonio in order to replace an old bridge.

A spokesman from TXDOT warned drivers about the road closure: “It’ll be tough. It will not be fun.”

The road closure will begin on April 7 at 9 p.m. and last until Monday at 5 a.m. Transportation officials will be shutting down all lanes of I-35 in both directions between Rittiman Road and George Beach near NE Loop 410. The interstate will reopen between 6 and 11 p.m. on Saturday to accommodate traffic from the Spurs game.

While the interstate is closed, road crews will destroy and remove the bridge.

TXDOT says that the road closure is necessary to relocate a left hand exit ramp to the right side of the interstate because of the danger that the old exit posed for semi truck traffic.

The I-35 closure is expected to impact nearly 300,000 per day.
