Senator Luther Strange, United States Senator from Alabama, visited Wright Transportation Inc. on Monday August 7, 2017 to meet about infrastructure at the small business level. Strange has been serving in the U.S. Senate since February 9, 2017 as a result of Jeff Sessions resignation; currently, Strange is running to officially fill this vacancy.
Party Primary Election for Senate: August 15, 2017
Strange is currently traveling in efforts to break the tight race for the U.S. Senate against competitor former State Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore. This trip landed him inside one of Wright’s trucks. Watch the video below:
Strange later posted on his Facebook saying, “I had a great meeting about infrastructure at Wright Transportation, a family-owned small business working hard to take care of their employees, customers and community. Also learned a lot about infrastructure needs at the port in Mobile, an important part of our state’s economy.”
Is Infrastructure A Priority for Senator Strange?
Since the main focus of the meeting at Wright Transportation Inc. was infrastructure, it makes the public wonder what Strange saw from the view of a truck driver.
He claims to understand the necessity that the trucking industry is to the state (and national) economy, so it will be interesting to see how important he really thinks the trucking industry is if he is elected. According to AL.com, “…[Strange] said he’s working “very closely” with Sen. Richard Shelby on issues such as plans to build a high-rise I-10 bridge across the Mobile River and to enlarge the Mobile Ship Channel.”
Strange later supports Trump’s promise to spend money on roads and bridges, but then claims to not have specific news regarding actual infrastructure change. Only time will tell if Strange and Trump will be able to deliver on key promises of infrastructure improvements.
