Uber Freight Officially Launches, Promises To Empower Truck Drivers

The Uber Freight app has officially launched, and the app’s developers are hoping that dissatisfaction with the current state of the trucking industry will lure truck drivers away from traditional carriers.

Uber Freight App

The app’s launch was heralded by a blog post published on May 16 entitled “Uber Freight — Leveling the Playing Field for America’s Truck Drivers.” In the blog post, Uber Freight demonstrates a keen understanding of the issues that annoy and worry truck drivers and promises to provide a driver-friendly alternative to traditional trucking companies. Uber Freight developers say that that app allows truckers to find and book a load with a couple of clicks. They also promise to pay drivers in a few days, fee free.

How Does Uber Freight Work?

From the blog post:

“So what is Uber Freight?

Uber Freight is an app that matches trucking companies with loads to haul. We take the guesswork out of finding and booking freight, which is often the most stressful part of a driver’s day. What used to take several hours and multiple phone calls can now be achieved with the touch of a button.

Vetted users download the app, search for a load, and simply tap to book it. We send a rate confirmation within seconds, eliminating a common anxiety in trucking about whether or not the load is really confirmed.

On top of that, we aim to deliver where it matters most: payments. When trucking companies get paid, they typically have to wait 30 days or longer, enough time to sink a small business. We’ve also heard stories of drivers waiting over 10 hours to get loaded without compensation.

Uber Freight is committed to paying within a few days, fee-free, for every single load. When things don’t go as planned or drivers have to wait longer than expected, we pay for that too. These “accessorial” rates are published right on our blog and website.”

Users Offer Mixed Reviews on Uber Freight App

Reviews of the app are mixed so far — it has a three star rating with most users either rating it one star or five stars.

Reviewer michael tolbert gave the app a five star rating and wrote: “The only people who would be against this would be cut throat middle man brokers. The end of truck drivers loosing 40%-45% per load is coming to a end! Truckers now you won’t have to be torn between if you can afford to get maintenance done on your equipment this week or pay to keep a roof over your families head. Make trucking profitable again for truckers Uber and you will have a VERY long life in this industry! We are rooting for you! ~Truck Drivers

Adam L left a one star app rating and a much less glowing review: “Not a place for Uber. Freight is way more complex than giving someone a ride home from the bar . Stick to what you know and leave freight to the pros. What’s next Uber Parcel Service? Come on.
