VIDEO: Cop rides along with trucker to catch distracted drivers

Watch as an officer rides along with a truck driver in Ontario in efforts to catch distracted drivers.

Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are going to emphasize a new initiative called Operation Safe Trucking that helps them catch distracted drivers.

This video shows Sgt Kerry Schmidt paroling during the five-day blitz. He said, “We are looking for aggressive, distracted, inattentive, impaired, or any type of high risk driving that we see.”

He explains that he is not only looking at passenger vehicles but also commercial motor vehicles (CMV).

He says riding with a truck driver to patrol gives OPP the opportunity to more efficiently and effectively combat distracted driving.

He tells drivers they need to watch the road, pay attention, and see whats coming ahead.

Other trucks in this blitz sometimes won’t even be hauling anything – they could be cabs appearing to retrieve their next load.

You never know who is watching you. Anybody can be watching you as well – motorists can report another driver for unsafe behavior by dialing OPP.
