A worker lost his life at a port in south Philadelphia today when a shipping container fell onto his pickup truck.
The incident happened around noon at the Packer Marine Terminal. According to a representative from the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority, a top pick accidentally knocked a shipping container from a stack of containers, causing it to fall on the pickup.
“As far as we know, it sounds like a stack of containers was unfortunately knocked over by a piece of yard equipment and one landed on a truck containing the deceased,” said Greg Iannarelli, chief counsel for the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority.

Though they have declined to release the worker’s name, port officials say that the man was a 20 year employee.
The incident is still under investigation.
