I-65 shut down for multiple commercial vehicle crash

Kentucky transportation officials have shut down all southbound lanes of I-65 at mile marker 71 for an injury crash involving a Greyhound bus and multiple semi trucks.

The crash was reported around 8:40 a.m. near Bonnieville, Kentucky. Winter weather conditions made roadways snow covered and slick.

Numerous Injuries Reported Following Winter Weather Pileup

According to a news release from the Kentucky State Police (KSP) “officers are currently on the scene of a five vehicle commercial vehicle collision involving a Greyhound bus, two additional commercial vehicles, and two passenger vehicles.”

At least seven of the 24 passengers on the Greyhound bus were injured in the crash.

From KSP: “All lanes of Interstate 65 southbound have been temporarily closed due to blockage from the collision, and will remain closed for an extended period of time. All southbound traffic is being diverted onto US 31W at the 71 mile marker (Bonnieville exit), and directed back onto the interstate at the 65 mile marker (Munfordville exit)
Drivers are encouraged to slow their speeds and use caution when approaching this area due to heavy traffic congestion and slick roadway conditions.

Miles long traffic backups have been reported in the area.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
