An image circulating in the trucking community on social media shows a sign that warns truckers that their vehicles will be impounded if they park at a Michigan Walmart location.
A post shared on November 5 by Facebook user Vince Barrale features a large sign apparently posted at the Walmart store location in Livonia, Michigan.
The sign reads:
WARNING
As a courtesy
FOR ALL SEMI DRIVERS
we are posting this sign.
We have been directed to
IMPOUND ALL SEMI TRUCKS
on Walmart or
Shostak Properties.
This has been ordered by the
Livonia Police Motorcarrier
NO TRUCK PARKING SIGNS
HAVE BEEN POSTED
LIVONIA TOWING
CDLLife has reached out to the Livonia Police Department as well as Schostak Properties, but neither party has yet responded to our request for comment. Schostak is a real estate development firm that owns numerous commercial properties throughout Michigan.
With truck parking being a serious struggle for drivers nationwide, the news has not been well received by members of the trucking community, many of whom rely on Walmart for overnight parking when truck stops and rest areas are filled up.
When in doubt, don’t assume that any Walmart location allows for overnight truck parking. A quick call to the store’s manager will let you know a particular location’s truck parking policy.
