The incident happened in Evanston, Wyoming, just before 6 p.m.

From the Wyoming Highway Patrol:

A single passenger bi-plane was flying from Longmont, Co to Sky Park, UT. For reasons unknown, the plane’s engine lost power. The pilot attempted to land the plane on Interstate 80. The plane struck the top of the sleeper berth on a tractor-trailer which was hauling pigs. The impact caused the pilot to lose control of the plane. The plane then struck a variable speed limit sign and crashed on the north side of I-80 near milepost 8. The pilot was not injured in the crash. The semi truck came to a controlled stop on the right shoulder of the highway.
