Falling electrical beam kills trucker in Pennsylvania Turnpike tunnel

A New Jersey trucker lost his life yesterday when an electrical beam inside the Lehigh Tunnel collapsed and crashed through his windshield.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. on I-476 in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.

Beam Collapses On Multiple Vehicles In Lehigh Tunnel

As seventy year old truck driver Howard Sexton was traveling through the tunnel, an electrical beam collapsed and smashed through his vehicle’s windshield. The beam also struck other vehicles, according to reports.

Sexton was pronounced dead at the scene after 10 p.m. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday.

No other injuries have been reported.

Cause Of Collapse Under Investigation

The southbound lanes through Lehigh Tunnel were shut down all night but transportation officials were able to reopen all lanes around 8 a.m. today.

Pennsylvania State Police are working to determine why the electrical beam collapsed.
