Five hundred drivers gather to honor tow truck driver killed by alleged drunk motorist

Hundreds of truck drivers turned out today to honor the memory of a Massachusetts tow truck driver killed in the line of duty by an alleged drunk car driver.

According to local reports, between 500 and 600 trucks gathered for the funeral procession this morning for 41 year old Andover-based town truck driver Dan Coady. Coady worked for his family business Coady’s Garage and Towing.

According to a report in MassLive, Coady lost his life last Wednesday night, March 14, as he was loading up a crashed vehicle onto his tow truck on southbound I-495 in Andover. Coady was struck by 28 year old motorist Shiina Dionne and later passed away at a hospital from his injuries.

Dionne and another tow truck driver were both seriously hurt in the crash.

Dionne faces numerous charges, including DUI and motor vehicular homicide.

Many in the towing community are using today’s events as an opportunity to remind drivers to move over for emergency vehicles.
