A Jacksonville resident suffered serious burns as he pulled a trapped trucker to safety after a fiery crash near Tampa, Florida, last week.
The crash happened on I-75 around 2 p.m. on Friday, March 30. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the truck crashed due to a blown out tire.
Corey Key spotted the fiery aftermath of the crash on the way home from a work trip. In images captured at the scene, you can see Key on top of the burning truck as he works to the free the truck driver.
Key told New4Jax:
“He was trapped. He couldn’t push the door up and crawl out at the same time. It almost happened so fast. We opened the door and with the assistance of some other people, we pulled the gentleman out and pulled him away from the wreckage.”
Key suffered second degree burns in the rescue attempt. The truck driver was also burned but is expected to survive because of the quick and selfless action taken by Key and other Good Samaritans.
