Yesterday Indiana State Police uncovered hundreds of pounds of illegal drugs during a routine truck inspection.
The drugs were discovered on October 30 around 10:30 a.m. at the eastbound weigh station on I-70 near the Illinois/Indiana border, according to a news release from the Indiana State Police.
While conducting a routine DOT inspection, troopers became suspicious of 22 year old California-based truck driver Ravninder Kaler. Troopers asked for and received consent to search the truck and discovered 220-pounds of suspected cocaine and 65-pounds of suspected methamphetamine inside the trailer hidden inside duffel bags and a cardboard TV box.
The estimated street value of the drugs is $5 million.
Kaler was arrested and charges with Dealing Narcotics and Possession of Narcotics — both felony charges. He was taken to the Vigo County Jail.
Kaler was traveling from California to Ohio when he was stopped at the weigh station.
